Going Deeper – 10.26.2025

Breaking Ground

Think about an accomplishment, achievement, or success from your past that, in hindsight, you feel like a whole season of your life was building to. What was it? What built up to this moment? How did it reframe your understanding of the journey that led to it?

The Dig

This Sunday, we concluded our series Covenantal by exploring Jesus’ New Covenant, which serves as the fulfillment & culmination of every covenant that precedes it.

Begin by reflecting upon the series as a whole. As a reminder, we explored God’s Covenants with:

  • Creation & Adam/Eve
  • Noah
  • Abraham, Jacob, & his descendants
  • Israel
  • King David

Which of these Covenants did you find the most interesting? Challenging? Confusing? Encouraging?

Next, take time to reflect upon the questions from our panel at church on Sunday. Begin by reading Jeremiah 31:31-34. This is one of the key Scriptures that describes God’s Promise of the New Covenant, which the New Testament authors uphold as finding its inauguration in the person & story of Jesus. For them, Jesus fulfilled each prior covenant & brought to completion the entire story of the Hebrew Scriptures with this new agreement between God & humanity.

Where do you see these connected strings of the previous Covenant stories within this text from Jeremiah? How do you see its promises & storylines finding their fulfillment in the person & story of Jesus?

How does Jesus ratify this new covenant with his life, death, & resurrection? How do we partake in this covenant through our lives today?

What does this New Covenant promise reveal about the character of God? How does it reorient & transform our understanding of who He is & how we relate to Him?

Critically, as always, this New Covenant begins with grace & then calls us to transform in response to that reality. What does living in response to the New Covenant look like? Where do you need this reminder in your life today?

Getting Out of the Hole

Take time each week to reflect upon the Covenant explored in the Sunday sermon.

  • Read Jeremiah 31:31-34. What stands out to you about the promises of God’s New Covenant? What does this reveal about who God is?
  • Where do you see the promises of the New Covenant being fulfilled in the person & story of Jesus? What does this reveal about who Jesus is?
  • How should we respond to this radical movement of divine grace? What kind of people should it reshape us into? Where do you need to take a step forward in that transformation in this season of your life?

Journal about how this prayer practice makes you feel this week. Share your experience with your group next week.
