Going Deeper 6/21/26

Breaking Ground

Who is a person that you consider a mentor in your life, or, if you don’t have one, who is a fictitious character who you would’ve loved to be a mentor?

The Dig

This Sunday, we continued our series: MY ETERNAL SCORECARD, where we are looking at how we culturally are shaped by an economy of salvation.  This week, we analogously engaged the leaderboard.  To review,  the past weeks a sin is a bogey and a good deed is a birdie, then the cumulative scores of our lives make up a total score of either sinfulness or holiness.  And these scores are “placed” on our leaderboard of Christianity.

Read 1 Corinthians 3:18-23.

While mentors are completely fine, how does Paul engage putting himself, Peter, Apollos or ANYONE on the figurative leaderboard?

How do Contemporary Christians do this today?

Consider ideals of Christian Nationalism: does this model of Christianity embrace a leaderboard model?

If Paul’s leaderboard is Jesus and no one else…how does that affect our economy of salvation and how we should live our lives?

If we truly accept Christ as the only one, and we model our games after Jesus…how does that change how we live our lives?

Getting Out of the Hole

Take time each week to reflect upon the Sunday sermon.

  • What areas in your life have you labeled as a double bogey that needs no label?
  • What areas in your life have you labeled as a birdie that needs no label?
  • What about people in your life who have this same mentality and stay away from the church?
  • Journal about what areas in your life you have labelled because society told you, and instead offer up to God –asking for God to reveal how you might look at a specific area?

NEXT WEEK:

  • IT’S THE BEST DAY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Owners: we will have our business meeting at 10am.
