Going Deeper 5.24.26

Breaking Ground:

Consider if you are willing to share…what was your first core memory of dealing with the idea of death?  Was it a relative?  A pet?  What were your main feelings regarding this experience?

The Dig:

This Sunday we concluded LIMINAL with the greatest example of a liminal moment: life to death.  A reminder that A liminal space is a place or state of transition, representing the “in-between” threshold between “what was” and “what’s next”. Often described as eerie, nostalgic, or surreal, these spaces are physically or metaphorically empty, such as abandoned hallways or transitional times like adolescence.

How does death represent a liminal moment?

In our message, death was seen not as a final moment, but a transitory time between one reality (life) to another (death) to yet another (life).  For many, this shift between death being the end of the journey reframes both death, and to life.

Read 1 Corinthians 15:12-23.

What stands out to you about this passage?

What does Paul proclaim about death, and about true life?

How does it feel knowing that there is yet another experience of a liminal space between death and resurrection?

What evidences of resurrection are there in our world today?

Consider that Paul…alogn with Jesus and numerous times in the Bible…describe death as “sleeping”.  How does this change the concept of death itself?

Getting Out of the Hole:

Take time each week to reflect upon the Sunday sermon.

  • Read John 11, in its entirety (it’s long, I’m sorry).  How does this point to our new liminal life in the life to come?
  • How does sleep change how you might consider the life you are currently living?
  • Journal, reflect, & pray on how God might be speaking to you through each week’s teaching. Share your experience with your growth group next week!
