07.05.2020 | THEREFORE | Wk 2: “Therefore Grow”
Join the community and go deeper with this Bible study.
What is something you’ve always wanted to be good at (that you aren’t good at right now)?
Reflect on the value for this week: “When the Holy Spirit is moving in and among us, we embrace a life of perpetual growth.”
What stands out to you about this value? How do you respond to it?
What does a life of perpetual growth mean to you individually?
What role does a community play in living this value out?
Next, read Romans 12:2.
What do you think Paul means by “the patterns of this world”?
What does it mean to be conformed to them?
How would you define being transformed?
Why do you think Paul focuses on “the mind” in terms of where this transformation takes place? What does it mean for our minds to be renewed?
What does Paul see as the outcome of this renewal?
Reflect on where you are currently growing in this season.
Where is this growth taking place? How does it feel? What do you hope to come out of it on the other side?
How can that growth help you give back to your community?
Reflect on where you need to grow in this coming season.
Where do you feel like you have refused to grow, stalled out in your growth, & want to see growth take place?
What do you need to change to grow in this area of your life?
How can your growth group community help you find that growth in this next season?
If you have extra time, close by reading through the “How We Live It Out” points in the next section.
Getting Out of the Hole
Take each week during this season to reflect on our definition for each value.
GROWTH: When the Holy Spirit is moving in and among us, we embrace a life of perpetual growth.
WHAT IT MEANS: Jesus’ teaching promises redemption and healing for all aspects of our lives. We believe that the emphasis of a Godly, spiritual life is not simply on attaining salvation, but on the process of becoming more like Jesus; a journey of Growth which, in this life, does not end. God is calling all of us, at all times, to be moving towards his vision for our lives, as exemplified by the model of Jesus Christ.
HOW WE LIVE IT OUT:
● Understanding that the journey of growth takes place in both solitude and community, we seek to foster both areas of our lives. In solitude, we engage in Godly practices (e.g. prayer, meditation); in community, we listen and share with total authenticity (e.g. close friendships, family, and Growth Groups).
● We emphasize life change over a one time conversion experience.
● We are patient with people. No one is perfect, and change takes time.
● In our own lives, we never “arrive”; we always allow for God to do something new in us.
Journal, reflect, & pray over your this value. Note any insights that stand out or really hit home. Share your experience with your growth group next week!
