01.10.2021 | DANGEROUS INTERSECTION | Wk 2: “Authentic Community”
Join the community and go deeper with this Bible study.
Who was your favorite teacher from middle school, high school, or college? Why?
Spend this week reflecting on the second part of E3’s vision statement that we are exploring in our new series – authentic community.
How do you define the phrase authentic community?
Begin by reading Ephesians 4:1-6 & 14-16. In this section, Paul speaks directly to the connection between faith & the intertwined life of community.
What is the relationship between having faith & building authentic community?
What attributes does Paul believe a community of faith must have to be an authentic community?
Paul believes that building an authentic community requires being able to speak into each other’s lives. However, if you follow the logic of this passage, Paul lays out a few things that must take place for this to happen in a healthy way.
- First – the story of grace.
- Second – personal growth in our own character defects.
- Third – intertwined relationships & unity.
- Fourth – speaking truth in love.
Why do we need to start with grace for one another to build authentic relationships & community?
Why must our own personal growth come before we speak into other people’s lives?
Have you ever had someone try to speak into your life without building relational trust with you first? Why is this a problem?
What does it mean to “speak truth in love” to each other? What do those conversations look like? What does the opposite of “speaking truth in love” look like? Share examples from your own life if you have them.
How do all of these things together form a community that matures & grows together?
Getting Out of the Hole
Take time in this series to reflect on & pray over each part of Element3’s vision statement. This week, focus on authentic community. Ask yourself:
- What does this part of the vision statement mean to me?
- Where does E3 currently help me (or others) experience this?
- How can I help E3 be a place where this is experienced more deeply (by myself & others)?
Journal, reflect, & pray over these questions. Ask God where you need to hear & take part in God’s work to make E3 the community it wants to be. Share your experience with your growth group next week!
