Breaking Ground

What were you afraid of as a kid?

Do you still have any fears or phobias as an adult? What are they?

The Dig

Read Psalm 139:13-24

What strikes you about this passage?

What does it say about God?

What does it say about us?

What “anxious thoughts” tend to afflict you?

How do you deal with them?

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:3

In what ways are you tempted to depend on the “peace and security” of the world?

Why might this be a mistake?

Read John 14:27

What does Jesus’ “peace and mind” look like to you?

How does it differ from what “the world offers”?

Getting Out of the Hole

Seek to cultivate the peace of Christ by quieting down and welcoming him into your moment-to-moment existence.

THE GRIND | 02.19.2017 | “The Grind of Insignificance”

Join the community and go deeper with this Bible study.

Breaking Ground

Did you ever work somewhere that you felt like you just did not matter?

How did that affect you?

The Dig

Read Psalm 139:1-12

What strikes you about this passage?

What does it say about God?

What does it say about us?

Describe all the different ways in which God knows us. (vv1-6)

In light of all this, why is it in our nature to run away from God? (v7)

Have you ever done this? (Are you doing it right now?)

What are the costs of trying to find your significance apart from God?

Have you ever done that?

What does it mean to you to be God’s “Beloved”?

How can you stay in touch with that reality?

How would your life look different if you lived out of that reality?

Getting Out of the Hole

This week, try to focus on the ways in which you try to derive your significance from areas other than God’s love.

As you identify those areas, learn to rest in God’s radical love for you as His beloved child.

Join the community and go deeper with this Bible study.

Breaking Ground

How do you typically deal with difficult people?

Have you ever been the difficult person? What was that like for you?

The Dig

Read Psalm 54

What strikes you about the Psalm?

Read 1 Samuel 23:13-29

How does the context of Psalm 54 help you understand the content?

Read Ephesians 4:29

How would you define “foul or abusive” language?

How well are you living out Paul’s words here?

Read 1 Peter 2:21

What is Peter implying here? What’s the relationship between Jesus suffering and our lives?

How did Christ respond to his suffering?

How did he respond to the people who were persecuting him?

In light of 1 Peter 2:21, how are we supposed to respond?

Getting Out of the Hole

Is there someone you need to forgive for being difficult?

Is there someone you need to apologize to for being difficult?
