Breaking Ground

If your life was a book, what would the name be? (Either an existing book or a made-up title.)

What would the major plot points be?

The Dig

Read Genesis 1:1-2:3

What stands out to you in the creation story? What does this story say about God?

What does it say about humanity?

What does it say about God’s relationship to humanity?

Read Genesis 1:26-27

What does it mean to made in God’s image and likeness?

Is it easy to forget that we are “icons” (images)? Why or why not?

How can we do a better job of remembering this fact?

What role does Jesus have in our understanding of Genesis 1:26-27? (Hint: read Colossians 1:15-20 and note the similarities)?

Read Genesis 1:26-28

What does it mean to “reign” and “govern” the earth?

In what ways can this go “sideways” for human beings?

What role does Jesus have in our understanding of “governing” and “reigning”? (Hint: read Philippians 2:5-11.)

Getting Out of the Hole

Be aware of the “story” that you’re living in:

  • a God you can know
  • you are made in his image
  • you are born to reflect that image out to the rest of creation, and to “reign”

Meditate and pray on these truths, and choose to live them out in your daily life.
